This McLaren Vodafone Mercedes Benz MP4/23 was driven by Lewis Hamilton as won his first Formula 1 Championship. Hamilton took five victories throught the season in Australia - Monaco - Great Britain - Germany and China. The Brit won the title with 98 points - just one point ahead of Ferrari's Felipe Massa. The result is still considered controversial to this day - with Felipe Massa claiming that there was foul play involved from Renault in Singapore with Piquet allegedly crashing out intentionally - allowing teammate Alonso to take the win and meaning Massa lost positions. However - it was the first of many championship wins for Hamilton for the then 23 year old.
